Another Successful Event
Yesterday my brother Jim and I set up The Phillies Collector "big-top" at AB Sports in Concord Mall (Wilmington, Delaware). They were hosting former Flyers Bob Kelly, Joe Watson and Jim Watson for an autograph signing and were gracious enough to let us set up a card table, talk to customers and pass out information on the site.
For those of you who don't know, the partnership held between us brothers is that I handle content creation and distribution for the site and Jim does the legwork with sponsors and promoters. He also has an uncanny knack for marketing - including dreaming up the in-store promotional events which have been a great way to meet current readers and bring awareness of our page to collectors over the years. And, yesterday was no exception!
Early morning I put together the pile of must-haves: Ad poster, tripod, postcards and a computer monitor. Then, looked for related collectibles to display on the table. Saturday was our first, Flyers-centric signing - and with members of the Stanley Cup Championship teams it gave me a opportunity to pull out some of my Bullies memorabilia. Nothing too special - but just a few items to add to conversations.
The owners gave us a great spot at the front of the store - and it was pleasing to see so many readers file in. We were able to catch up with those we met at previous signings, and meet others I have only ever talked to electronically. As a result of our location we were also unofficial greeters for the signers. And, I laughed pretty loud when Bob Kelly walked in presenting his '74-'75 Championship ring and declaring, "40-years later and I'm still milking it!"
Though busy personal schedules prevent us from attending every event - it is always fun to get out there and make a personal connection with readers. I'm looking forward to setting up at another signing again soon...
