Phillies TTM: Flashback, Wally Backman
Here is another one from TTM archives...
Wally Backman played with the Phillies for two seasons, 1991 and 1992, appearing in 136 games. For most of his time with the team he was a key player off the bench often spelling Mickey Morandini at second base. I had a real appreciation for his gritty approach to the game and can still picture him slashing at pitches with that flat swing and of course, Harry calling his name - "the Great Waldo" after some (not so frequent) significant play.
I sent this card to Wally at Veterans Stadium during the summer of 1992. It has been so long ago that I no longer recall the turnaround time, but I do remember being excited when it came back. Though it will never be worth a ton of money, this card will always be one of my favorite TTM successes.
